Taillights

A friend of mine in Scotland sent me a picture of his car before he disassembled it for body repair. It had some great looking taillights:

Heinkel Cars and Cabin Scooters
Heinkel with Lucas L549 taillights

He told me that these are Lucas L549’s which were used on many cars of the period, including MG’s, Austins, Triumphs, and Jaguars. They reminded me of the rear lights on the black Heinkel at the recent Weiner Microcar Museum auction:

Heinkel Cars and Cabin Scooters
Unusual Heinkel Taillights

I like both of these lights better than the originals:
Heinkel Cars, Kabines, and Cabin Scooters
Original Style Heinkel Taillights
And a substitute smaller version of the original:

Budget Reproduction Lights (left, $16) vs. Originals (right, $90)
Best of all, these lights are reproduced and are available for less than half the cost of the Hella reproductions available from the clubs.

Lucas L549 Reproduction Taillight ($33)

If I restore my other car I think I’ll use them.

    1. You can buy them from the Heinkel Club of Great Britain. I have an extra set I can sell you, including the base gaskets. Email me offline if you are interested.
